Abundance

Before painting Abundance, inspiration came from a beautifully shaped loaf of bread. From that moment, the composition grew into a kitchen-inspired idea where fruit became central to the piece. The idea follows a simple thread: what grows together often belongs together. Flavour and colour tend to mirror each other in nature, like strawberries and tomatoes, or peppers and rosemary. Building on this, pomegranates and grapes were added to deepen both the visual and thematic richness of the work. Abundance is a still- life based on a real set up, created by me, Rebecca. As an artist, I often find myself in the midst of ideas I am desperate to create, while not yet having the skills to fully execute the inspiration in my head.

I firmly believe perfection is an illusion, and chasing it will only leave you uninspired. But this piece is deeply close to my heart. It’s a mix of looking at it and thinking, “I can already see how to improve my next still life,” while also thinking, “I made that with my own two hands.”

I did it while tired, when morale was low because I couldn’t seem to get it right. I did it with joy in my heart and optimism in my mind. So if anything, let this piece, Abundance, inspire you to keep trying, even the hard things.
