Rhubarb

Welcome.
I’m Rebecca, an oil painter based in the Netherlands and the hands behind Studio Rhubarb. My work grows from observation, shaped by stillness, natural light, and the quiet beauty of overlooked moments.

Much of my work begins with my own reference photos or moments from daily life: scenes from my garden, butterflies in passing, a loaf of bread that inspired a still life painting, and landscapes that linger in memory.

My main ongoing series is Seed to Canvas, a growing collection of oil paintings that follows the quiet transformation of nature, from seed through bloom to canvas.
A process that begins long before paint touches the brush. It reflects the life I am building: one that is more attentive, closely connected to nature, art, books, fibre arts, and the small rhythms of daily life with my mini lop bunny and chosen family.

Though I am not formally trained in the arts, my path has always been creative. With roots in many cultures, I carry a blend of perspectives, sensibilities, and ways of seeing.

Before painting, I expressed this through cooking and wine, formally studying both with curiosity and joy.
Growing up, I also spent over a decade in kyokushin karate. It shaped much of who I am today through focus, discipline, patience, and persistence. Even now, those principles quietly carry into my studio practice and the way I work.

Today, my work is rooted in a more intentional way of living. After navigating a number of unexpected setbacks and injuries, painting became a way of creating a more peaceful and steady life.

A quiet reflection of what is seen, and what remains behind.

Studio Philosophy
[ 1 ]

The question was never if I would create, but solely what.
Painting makes my heart go wild and my mind go quiet. My art exists to pay tribute to my inner kid, my innocent self before life had me writing poetry about its aches. It is a way to explore life’s lessons and find freedom in the unexpected.

Each brushstroke is perseverance: to do it regardless, imperfectly. Art teaches that living wholly matters more than being precise. It whispers: dare, pause, breathe, hold, exist.

I can only hope my paintings are a safe place,  a home where the small things in life are celebrated, where euphoria, joy, or even ache can be felt, if only for a moment. Art, is the lens through which I see the world. As art is woven into every part of my life.

Get to know me better…

Get to know me a little more in the quiet corners where paint dries on brushes, soil clings to hands, and stories linger long after the page is closed.
On Instagram & TikTok, I share my painting process as it actually happens, studies from the garden, still life's slowly building in oil, and the small in-between moments where an idea turns into a brushstroke.
Pinterest is where I display the visual references behind my work: colour studies, stunning gardens moments, handmade fiber journey of crochet and knits. And on Fable and Goodreads, you’ll see where I find magic between pages instead of in my needles, brushes, or soil.  The lovely or heartbreaking stories that shape how I see life, contrast, seasons, and the quiet ways a life can be preserve like an oil painting.
